Ce titre, basé sur une grosse caisse claire et un synthétiseur au son métallique, fut enregistré lors de la session de Dangerous en 1991 avec Teddy Riley qui a fait le mixe de la démo au Future Records de Virginia Beach. Pour "Blood on the dancefloor", c'est le mixeur Dave Way qui a été charger du mixage comme pour le titre "Superfly Sister".Ghosts est une chanson qui traite de ce que Jackson a déjà plusieurs fois traité en chanson: la traque perpétuelle des médias à son sujet, en particulier pour le dénigrer à loisir à propos de tout et n'importe quoi en utilisant l'image des fantômes est des mort-vivants pour parler des medias et des paparazzis mais aussi des bourreaux comme les Illuminatis / franc maçon et qu'ils sont partout. Il parlait sans cesse d'eux avant sa mort et comment il savait qu'ils allaient le tuer.Cependant, Michael se demande ourquoi ils l'ont choisis.Ils sont là mais Michael ne peut pas le prouver.Michael est en colère et blessé.Les instruments joués sur la piste "Ghost" incluent une guitare et le piano. La tessiture vocale de Michael Jackson est G3-A5, la chanson est jouée dans la clé de sol majeur. Entre 1991 et 1996, la chanson a été réenregistré plusieurs fois dans différents studios à travers le monde : The Hit Factory (N.Y.), Record One (Sherman Oaks, CA), Dieter Dierks Studios (Cologne, Germany), Wisseidorf Studio (Amsterdam), Air Studios (Lyndhurst) et Larrabee Studios (L.A.).Pour retravailler les claviers et les synthétiseurs de la démo, en plus de l'habituel Brad Buxer, Michael a fait appel à Doug Grisby qui a collaboré avec Michael sur l'album "History". Doug a collaboré avec d'autres chanteurs comme Patti LaBelle, Teena Marie, Kylie Minogue et plein d'autres... mais aussi à la production du jeu Sonic chez Sega. Pour programmer les tambours, Michael a fait appel à l'allemand Alex Breuer qui a collaboré. Alex a été l'auteur de nombreux remix pour Chill 'N' Force, Brooklyn Bounce, The Jokerou encore Race et a été producteur de Justine Earp, Kee Mo , T-Jay oue encore Bang Gang....
