Le titre "Muscles" a été à la base une démo de Michael pour figurer un de ses albums peut être "Thriller" au vue des musiciens mais il va l'offrir à Diana Ross pour son album Silk Electric.La chanson sortira en single est connu un bon succés en étant dans le top 10 pendant 6 semaines et a été certifié disque d'or aux Etats Unis.Le single se classa aussi 6e en Suède,la 15e en Grande Bretagne et 10e rang aux Pays Bas.Michael a renommé la chanson "Muscles" à cause du désir de Diana pour les amants musclés.Diana grâce à ceux titres à eu sa douzième et dernière nomination aux Grammys.La chanson a été réenregistré par le DJ Club 69 avec la chanteuse Suzanne Palmer et a été samplé par Lil'Kim pour le titre "Diamonds".Michael a fait appel à Jonathan Moffett, le batteur de la tournée "Victory" et plus tartd "This Is It", pour la percussion.L'enregistrement s'est déroulé dans le même studio que celui où les Jacksons ont fait des sessions pour Triumph : Hollywood Sound Recorders.Pour la démo de "Muscles", Michael sollicita Nathan Watts pour la ligne de basse et son jeu a été conservé pour la version finale de Diana Ross..
